Movie Review "Red"

The slogan of the film "Krasny" about the uprising in the GULAG camp sounds like "the struggle is still going on." Apparently, the fight for a good movie is lost

Red is the movie character we've been waiting for. This has been repeatedly noted by the creators of the film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Andrei Kokotyukha. Daniel Krasny is indestructible, strict, stubborn and (spoiler alert, and there will be many of them) does not die. Everyone is used to the fact that in Ukrainian films there is always a lot of suffering, complaints about a difficult fate and unspeakable pain, as in Taras Khimich's "Live". There is no universal sorrow in Zaza Buadze's "Red". However, the film echoes the "Live" - not only the presence of UPA soldiers, but also a bad script and flat characters.

The film takes place in an unknown concentration camp, but in a clearly defined 1947 year. Although in fact these are the events of the 50s. As the head of the camp, Major Abramov (Alexander Mavrits), says, "there are two ways out of the camp: either out of the gate when you leave, or on a stretcher to the grave." UPA soldiers are kept here, and all of them from the same armed groups, so that it would not be so sad. Ephemeral Lithuanian "forest brothers" and criminals share barracks with them. The latter, in particular, "bitches", are set against "Bandera" by the boss, hoping to solve the problem with brazen Ukrainians with their hands.

The mission turns out to be impossible. After all, Krasny (Nikolai Bereza) is not just a hero, he is a superhero. No one and nothing can kill him. Here is Daniel standing in front of the camp commander, standing calm, disarmed, looking into his eyes, demanding food for the prisoners. And the major only points a gun at Red, and the trigger does not deceive. Although a couple of shots were therefore easily killed on the parade ground by a couple of thieves. Daniel will repay him in this way if he cannot shoot the enemy in the head, having everything for this. Amazing tolerance, as for the Gulag.

Instead, Red looks thoughtfully into space and gives out "What can I say? Spring." And wild geese will fly in the sky, and the viewer will begin to suffer from that pathos symbolism. In the film, Daniel is also purely symbolic. He is on the posters, and the tape is named after him, but the place of the central character is occupied by a pilot from Chernihiv, Viktor Gurov (Oleg Shulga). He gets almost the most character development. The pilot cannot decide which side he is on, who is his enemy and who is his friend. The riots in his story add feelings for Tamila's nurse (Lyubov Tishchenko), who sleeps with the camp commander. This is how she tries to find out what happened to her imprisoned father. But Major Abramov promised to help the girl only in words, taking full advantage of his position. In his spare time, the boss fills up with white, catches a "squirrel" and arranges a drunken brawl.

If you didn't know that the events are unfolding in a concentration camp, you would think that this is a "Shawshank Escape", and not an uprising of political prisoners. Ordinary barracks, guards, prisoners. A shaved and polished Red one walks thoughtfully among them. Closer to the finale, the picture clears up a little and the promised action movie begins. Everyone is shooting.

However, the tension of the film is not created by the active screen action, but by the music of Franco Eco. His keyboards tell you where the climax is and where the denouement is. But not the only one. At Easter, the rebels will tighten "Oh, there's a red viburnum in the pocket", and one even has embroidery. Embroidery in a concentration camp, why not?

Krasny really wanted to become a sharp Ukrainian action thriller with cool characters and an interesting story. However, the viewer got another attempt, not a full-fledged film. Solid scenario holes, pretentious scenes and pseudo-glyph phrases against the background of argo. It remains to be hoped that the sequel and prequel, already announced, will be more holistic and will show us the same hero Red. It's not for nothing that he built the Justice League - Ukreinian Edition in the final of the tape. To attract customers, bookmakers today actively utilize special bonus codes like 1xbet.
